Focus – Explore some of the defining characteristics of photography, according to Stephen Shore. For this shooting assignment we will pick Focus and experiment with it’s effects in-camera, and with post-work in Photoshop.
In-Camera Focus: take a photo in which the focus / depth of field is paramount to how you view the photo. For instance, what’s out of focus is just as important as what is. The subject matter for this is wide open.
Photoshop Focus: take a photo of a “miniature” landscape. We will use the Tilt-Shift effect to simulate a miniature out of a life size scene. Get somewhere high, such as a building or parking structure (not the OCC structure!) and shoot down on the surrounding area. The steeper the angle the better. Be creative with your framing and think of how you will compose your shot.
