Despite capturing reality, Sontag argues that photographs are also interpretations. Using a tripod and a flashlight or other continuous light source, take a long exposure at night (15 sec +) and use the light source to paint with light “On-Camera”, with the light source in the photo, and “off camera” with the light source outside of the frame. View the video tutorials for reference.
Submit one final photo of each method:
- 1 On-Camera Light Painting
- 1 Off-Camera Light Painting.
Camera Settings:
- YOU MUST USE A TRIPOD.
- You will need to let a very small amount of light into the camera to achieve a long exposure. Therefore, set the to a low-sensitivity ISO like 100.
- Using manual or aperture-priority mode, set the f-stop to f11 or smaller, depending on the length of the exposure you want to achieve.
